Safe drinking water is essential in any household. Tap water doesn’t cut it, which is why Waterdrop Filters created their award-winning filter systems. With their under sink water filters, you can make your tap water safe for drinking and cooking easily. However, there are multiple Waterdrop filters to choose from, so which one is best? In this review, we’ll compare the Waterdrop G2 vs G3 filtration systems.
Most under sink water filters are cheap because they do not include reverse osmosis or tankless designs. They are very bulky with large storage tanks and multiple water lines. The major difference with Waterdrop is that the company listened to customers and designed something that included a tankless, compact design and a reverse osmosis stage.
Both under sink water filters are highly effective against chlorine, chloramines, PFOA/PFOS, cysts, and other contaminants. The Waterdrop G2 has two filters and five filtration stages. The Waterdrop G3 has more robust filtration with three filters, seven stages, filter-life indicator, and a TDS meter.
Here are some of the benefits unique to Waterdrop’s line of filters
Multi-Stage Reverse Osmosis

One of the features that set Waterdrop models apart from other filtration systems is their unique reverse osmosis stage. Both G2 and G3 provide multi-stage filtration with a proprietary reverse osmosis membrane. It removes all micro particles as small as 0.0001 μm improves water alkalinity.
RO membranes remove 99% of all contaminants. In fact, both the G2 and G3 remove over 1,000 toxins, ranging from chlorine and fluoride to lead and arsenic. You can enjoy purified, smooth-tasting water that’s more alkaline thanks to this type of filtration as well.
While both the Waterdrop G2 and G3 have reverse osmosis membranes, the G3 has 7 stages of filtration while the G2 only has 5 stages. We explore more of these differences in each of the following product reviews.
Strong Filter Life
With a filtration system, you should always look at filter life. Most water purification systems require you to replace filters every 3 to 6 months. Waterdrop has multiple filters. The composite filters need to be replaced once a year, and the RO membrane should be replaced within 2 to 3 years.
The G2 design has less filters but it’s the same replacement time for the carbon block filter and RO membrane.
Easy Maintenance
The tankless design means that your Waterdrop filter won’t have the same problems with mold, mildew, and other contamination as other water filters. The plug and play filters make it easy to keep the case and inside clean without having to take apart the case.
Support and 1-Year Extended Warranty
Customer support is a huge necessity with any household appliance, particularly something as unique as a water filter. With online and phone support, Waterdrop has one of the best product support teams of all water filtration companies.
It’s easy to get ahold of customer support when you need to resolve issues or ask questions, and there’s also a video channel that provides installation help.
Waterdrop also provides warranties for its filters and system. There’s a one-year warranty on the composite filters as well as a two-year warranty on the reverse membrane filter.
You can easily replace all filters and any malfunctioning parts within the first year of owning the water filter. So far, we’ve had zero issues with either system. Customers also review both the G2 and G3 with high scores and praise.
Quick and Straightforward Installation
Some under sink water filters have multiple lines and require multiple hours to install. That’s not the case with Waterdrop, and it shouldn’t be the standard in this market.
Thanks to video help and quick installation design, you only need about 15 minutes to install the Waterdrop filtration systems. The best part is that you don’t need plumbing experience to install these filters, and Waterdrop also includes all of the hardware necessary to complete the installation.
The installation is the same for the G2 as the G3. Both include a water line hookup and a second faucet. However, the system has to be plugged into electricity for each of these filters to work properly.
When it comes to reverse osmosis water filter systems for your home, the Waterdrop G3 P800 is one of the best, offering multi-stage filtration, 800 gallon per day output, LED UV sterilizer phase, and an integrated TDS meter with smart features.
It’s easy to see the water quality with the Waterdrop G3 P800. You can visibly see the water quality and it’s delicious. We were surprised to see how quickly this reverse osmosis filtration system was able to clean a gallon of water.
The Waterdrop G3 also has a modern design with an LED ring light that automatically starts to filter water as it passes through. It’s also guaranteed to work for over 50 years and has won a number of awards.
With its tankless, compact design, the Waterdrop G3 P800 also easily fits under your sink, saving tons of space, and it comes with a UV light for additional sterilization. This is especially important for homes with well water, which need this extra level of filtration.
One of the reasons that many homeowners choose the Waterdrop G3 is because of its seven-stage filtration, which includes reverse osmosis. After testing this filter, we found that it can eliminate 99% of all harmful toxins in your water, including chlorine, lead, and bacteria.
There are also several other features to consider with this filtration device, especially if you’re looking for more balanced wastewater ratios. This filter has a 3:1 filtered water to wastewater ratio, which ensures lower water usage bills in comparison to other filtration systems with RO.
In addition to improved waste water efficiency, we also found that this system has a sediment pre-filter and carbon post-filter. This is why so many praise this filter, and why we found that it was so efficient when purifying water.
Here’s What We Like About the Waterdrop G3
The Waterdrop G3 P800 is made for small to large homes, as well as offices. It has an 800 gallon per day output, and it comes with a space-saving design.
An outstanding feature of this Waterdrop G3 system is the reverse osmosis stage with UV light upgrade. This means that you’ll have improved filtration performance. The 7-layer reverse osmosis membrane can remove incredibly small, micro particles, including chlorine, heavy metals, bacteria, and many other contaminants.
The filter was also designed to be smart and comes with an advanced LED chip that can reduce 99.9% of all viruses and bacteria. It’s also far superior to mercury UV sterilizers as it works only when water passes, triggering the LED chip to start filtering contaminants.
Most filters have a real problem with wastewater, but the Waterdrop G3 was designed to save water, which means that it includes water-saving technology. In fact, the manufacturer claims that their systems save 12 times more water than traditional reverse osmosis filters.
We also liked how the water flowed quickly, providing purified, fresh water within seconds. The whole system is easy to install and comes with an elegant second faucet for faster output. You can fill an 8 oz cup of water within seconds thanks to the 0.55 GPM water flow.
Additional features include a filter lifespan indicator, so you know exactly when to replace filters. Although we checked and these filters are long-lasting. You’ll only need to replace the pre-filter and post-filter every 6 months, while the RO membrane may last up to 5 years.
These Waterdrop G3 systems also include a TDS display so you can see water quality right when you are dispensing.
Finally, we have reviewed multiple filtration systems from a variety of brands, but Waterdrop has multiple ways to get support. We found their customer service to be incredibly easy to connect with and get answers quickly.
What Could Be Better
We couldn’t find too many problems with this high-quality water filtration system. The design comes from years of improving the filtration process and improving wastewater efficiency.
If you’re worried about the cost, this filtration system saves a lot of money from the lack of wastewater. You won’t need as much water to get a clean glass of purified drinking water.
Some customers preferred a traditional RO system because dispensing has a slight hesitation with a tankless design. However, it’s still super-fast and provides amazing water pressure.
For issues with installation, it’s best to use Waterdrop G3’s installation videos or talk to their support. Installation was quick and easy for us, but some customers needed additional help when installing the second faucet. If you were looking for a remineralization filter, it’s not included standard on the base Waterdrop G3 models, but you can opt for this as an add-on.

The Waterdrop G2 is an entry-level version of the Waterdrop G3. If you have a smaller household, the G2 is a good water filtration solution. The design is similar design to the G3, but the G2 has a 5-stage water filtration process instead and lacks UV filtration.
The G2 and G3 are tankless reverse osmosis membrane systems. The G2 has a 600 GPD (gallons per day) flow rate and a 1:1 drain water ratio (each gallon of filtered water produces once gallon of wastewater).
The design saves space under the sink, too. Without multiple tanks, the Waterdrop G2 can fit in most cabinets as it’s just 5.7 inches wide. The minimalist design also make it easier to open and close for fast filter replacement, cleaning, and maintenance.
Here’s What We Like About the Waterdrop G2
The first thing you’ll notice about the Waterdrop G2 is that it just looks incredibly sleek and modern with its curved case and simple filter plug-in design. Without a tank, it’s also very lightweight and easy to place under the sink. It also provides an indicator to let you know when the filter needs to be removed.
The 5-stage composite filter and RO membrane filtration process is also very capable. The new composite filter combines carbon block filtration and a reverse osmosis membrane to purify the odor and taste of the water while also filtering out over 1,000 contaminants.
What We Don’t Like
While the G2’s wastewater efficiency (1:1) is far better than industry average, it wastes 66% more water than the new Waterdrop G3P800 model. Users might notice increases in their water bill with heavy usage.
The filtration for difficult water sources, including well water, could be better. The two additional filtration stages and UV filter in the Waterdrop G3P800 shows better performance in removing bacteria and pathogens.
Even with its super sleek, tankless design, there are some things that are unavoidable. For one, you’ll have to install the Waterdrop filter, and like all under sink water filters, the G2 includes a second water faucet. You may need to spend time making space for a second water faucet.
Looking for the right water filter for your home comes with plenty of considerations. For example, cost is a huge factor. Water usage and wastewater ratios should be the first things you look at when trying to find an efficient, well-made filtration system. Waterdrop G3 P800 proves that water filtration systems don’t have to waste any water, even when they have a reverse osmosis membrane.
The Waterdrop G3 P800 is currently one of the most highly rated under-sink filters because of its advanced LED chip and highly efficient design. However, we also liked that it was able to remove 99.99% of all contaminants, including chlorine, viruses, bacteria, cysts, lead, arsenic, and more.
You’ll also like the way that it delivers water quickly with a high daily output, and the UV filter makes it possible to get the purest water even if you have a well water system in your home.
