Water Ionizer Review (Do NOT Buy Before Reading)

Smart Summary:
Water Ionizer

Water ionizers (also known as alkalizers or alkaline ionizers) are water filtration devices that raise pH levels by using electrolysis. They separate water into acidic and alkaline components, changing the structure of the liquid until the pH is much higher. Studies suggest multiple health benefits.

How to Compare Different Water Ionizers

Our water ionizer reviews feature the best water ionizers available based on our test results. Our experts look at water clarity, alkaline level, smart features, size, and cost. Before revealing our top picks, here are the most important features you should look when selecting a water ionizer.

High Alkaline Water pH Range

Ideally, you want a water ionizers that have a high pH range and strong water flow. Most machines have an indicator to clearly show you when the water is alkaline, which is any value over 7 on the pH scale.

Most water ionizer machines have a range of alkalinity, however. Higher-end water ionizers have more quality and health benefits. You may be able to control the alkalinity through a panel, allowing you to create pH level 1 water up to a pH level 14 result. While mild alkalinity is best, you can use the machine to create all types of water levels depending on whether you want to disinfect or cleanse your drinking water.

High Number of Electrolysis Plates

Every water ionizer machine has electrolysis plates. Most come with 3 to 5 plates, but these are lower numbers. The real machines have 7 to 9 or more plates. However, having more than 10 plates offers amazing health benefits. Having more plates also helps with the ionized water machine’s power. You get a larger range between low and high pH.

It’s important to look at the number of plates of each machine, as well as how big the machine is and what the plates are made of. They could be flat, mesh, or slotted plates.

High Oxidation Reduction Potential

You can also change the ORP levels. Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) is how we measure the degree to which any material or substance can oxidize or reduce another substance. Positive ORP readings mean that the substance is an oxidizing agent. Negative ORP readings mean that the substance is a reducing agent. These are features that you won’t find with every water ionizer machine.

Most types of regular tap water and bottled water are considered oxidizing agents because they have a positive ORP. After going through an water ionizer, the water becomes an anti-oxidizing agent, which gives it a negative ORP. This helps in the reduction of free radicals within the body.

Health Benefits of Drinking Alkaline Water

One thing we want to mention upfront is that alkaline water or ionized water has not been extensively studied to know if these benefits are significant for everyone. The best water ionizers have a high pH range and titanium plates as well as a touch screen with customized presets. However, many posts on Reddit and reports from customers show that ionized water from a water ionizer led to significant improvements in skin, stomach problems, and overall health. Water from a reverse osmosis system or plain tap water can’t compare.

Strengthens Your Immune System

Water ionizers also provide other healthy alkaline water benefits for your body over normal drinking water. Regular consumption boosts your immune system considerably. When you put yourself in an alkaline state, you limit the number of free radicals in your system. It helps cleanse the toxins from your body and helps your long-term health.

Improves Cellular Hydration

Did you know that NBA athletes prefer FIJI water to any other in their locker rooms? When you have drinking water at a higher pH, your body can achieve a higher level of cellular hydration than when drinking tap water. One study from 2010 conducted by the International Society of Sports Nutrition found that drinking ionized alkaline water with a pH as high as 10 provided more hydration for the body.

Water ionizers offer the same kind of benefits. This is because FIJI water has an average and natural pH of 7.8. This is slightly more alkaline than other water, which typically has a pH of 6 to 7.

Contains Powerful Antioxidants

Another one of the upsides is that it comes with antioxidants. The best water ionizers should include a molecular hydrogen boost to ensure there are even more antioxidants. You could turn your home into an antioxidant paradise with healthy water that freely flows from your faucet.

One of the best reasons to do so is that ionized water has ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) levels, which means it works against free radicals in the human body.

Helps with Acid Reflux

Do you experience heartburn or stomach issues recently? One study from Daniel P. Heli found that alkaline water from a water ionizers soothed symptoms from acid. This is because it helps with acid-base balance, which basic tap water cannot do.

If you have these problems, drinking water from an high quality water ionizer can calm your stomach. With its ultra-hydrating properties, healthy alkaline water can improve your condition, neutralize acidic PH, and settle your digestion within minutes.

Slows Down Bone Loss

A small study noted that alkaline ionized water aided in deceleration of bone loss in some patients. While this needs further research, there are some indicators that drinking slightly elevated alkaline water helps the body with calcium.

Assists Weight Loss

Studies have shown that junk food can heighten the acidity in your system. To neutralize the acid in your system, your body produces fat cells, which creates weight gain. Drinking alkaline water produced by a water ionizer daily can alleviate the acidity and assist in slowing the weight gain. It’s also a helpful part of an alkaline diet.

Tyent UCE-13 Plus

Under sink water ionizers are larger, stronger alkaline water machines. The UCE-13 Plus water ionizer is one of the smartest filtration devices on the market. For one, it has an LCD touchscreen with a hydrogen boost button that instantly boosts the molecular hydrogen. There are two internal filters that are rated for six months or 950 gallons.

The high-grade activated carbon and composite ceramic filters can filter out 99.99% of all contaminants. The filter is rated for 0.01-micron. Tyent engineered their water ionizers to benefit kidney function and overall well being. The ceramic filter also has an added bonus of adding electrolytes to the final purification stage.

With 13 platinum coated titanium plates, the Tyent UCE-13 Plus has a pH range between 1.7 and 12. While some ionizers don’t have a wide range of alkaline and acidic water options, you can easily program the pH levels to your liking.

However, the best part about this Tyent water ionizer is the faucet with a touchpad. You can easily use the buttons to filter and ionize the water to your liking. It also has an ORP range with -1050 mV to start. There are 55 different settings you can control with this faucet attachment.

What We Liked

The filtration on Tyent’s alkaline water ionizer devices are always superior to competitors. The 13 titanium plates are solid and mesh medical-grade titanium. These are large plates that span 385 square inches. We expected purified drinking water from this water ionizer to have a 99.99% contaminant-free result. This includes chlorine, chloramine, lead, arsenic, pesticides, bacteria, cysts, and more.

There are 7 basic pH range settings that you can use with a Turbo button. This includes 3 basic alkaline levels, 3 acidic levels, and a neutral level. You can preset each one of these so that you get the perfect level each time.

The Tyent UCE-13 Plus also has a flow rate of half gallon per minute, and it has an alkaline water filter life indicator that lets you know when you need to change filters. Customers report that filters typically last longer than six months.

Tyent water ionizers also have a guaranteed lifetime warranty that promises your money back with no questions asked.

What We Don’t Like

Installing Tyent’s water ionizers are not the easiest, but there are only a few connections to worry about. We wish there was a video that showed exactly how to install the ionizer.

It’s also not aesthetically pleasing to look at, which is why it’s an under sink water ionizer. While it does not filter out fluoride, you can purchase an extension for this model to get rid of fluoride and other particles.

Tyent H2 Hybrid

Tyent USA is an innovative company that has designed the highest-rated water filters and water ionizers on the market. Their hybrid countertop water ionizer combines alkaline water with a hydrogen generator, making it one of the most potent antioxidant products for home use.

The design of the unit is for user convenience. You can customize almost every aspect of your water with this water ionizer machine thanks to its high-quality LCD touchscreen. If you want to create the perfect bath water or a cleaning solution in addition to pure alkaline drinking water, the Tyent H2 Hybrid can do it all.

Pure, filtered drinking water is delivered right to your faucet with this water ionizer. The filters will last for about 950 gallons, which is about six months. The filters remove 99.9% of all contaminants that we tested, including chlorine, lead, arsenic, pesticides, cysts, bacteria, and a hundred more.

One of the best things about this Tyent Water Ionizers are the amount of plates, which are important to achieving the highest pH range in water filtration. The H2 Hybrid has 11 plates in total, and you will find mesh and solid body plates.

Everything comes with this system, so it’s easy to install. There are two faucets included, and although it’s optional to install the secondary faucet, you get more functions and convenience with two lines. You can create acidic, hydrogen-rich, or fully alkaline water and pump it through either faucet.

What We Liked

The Tyent H2 Hybrid simply works beautifully. The setup takes minutes, and with the guide, it’s easy to set up your preferences. While it feels a little strange to customize your water, you can truly taste the difference between alkaline water with low pH levels, and hydrogen-rich, high Ph alkaline water.

We loved how Tyent efficiently delivered, indicating that there is hardly any wastewater. It also conveniently doubles as a hydrogen water generator.

As we mentioned, you can program different settings for the touchpad panel. This allows you to select different alkalinity levels or acidic levels, as well as a self-cleaning function. This is the first water filter that feels truly smart.

The filter life is rather long for an alkaline water ionizer. Most filtration devices need to have their filters replaced every 3 months, but you’ll get more use with Tyent’s system.

Last but not least, Tyent Water fully protects their products with great customer service and a lifetime warranty. There is virtually no other water ionizer or hydrogen water maker that comes with that long of a warranty.

What We Don’t Like

The unit combines a hydrogen generator and water ionizer in one, so it’s a bit larger than some of the competitors. The unit can be a bit noisy as well. You also must have an electrical supply nearby to plug in this ionizer, but that’s not unlike the other ionizers on this list.

Life Ionizer MXL-15

The MXL-15 water ionizer comes with 15 titanium plates called XL Matrix GRID. It also includes a hydrogen booster. In addition, the unit has larger chambers than other competitors.

There are two internal filters that must be replaced each year. The one-click filter removal is easy to use, and these filters work. We found that Life Ionizer was able to remove 99% contaminants. This is thanks to the UV XL sterilization system, which uses light to kill bacteria and other microorganisms.

It also includes a digital display that you can use to set alkaline or acidic levels. The filter life indicator shows you exactly when filters are going to expire. The menu lets you set up and customize your preferred settings, including custom pH and ORP levels. The self-cleaning function keeps the ionizer continuously clean.

What We Liked

As an under sink water ionizer, the Life Ionizer is easy to install. It works with almost any electrical outlet up to 220V and most kitchen faucets. The design is a bit bulky, but it has a higher flow rate than most under sink filters at 6 liters per minute.

Life Ionizer also has a pH range of 1.7 to 12.2 thanks to the 15 plates. These plates are custom and offer a decent range. The design uses the XL Matrix Grid to get more edges on each plate, increasing the effective surface area for filtration.

In addition, Life Ionizer includes a UV light option that kills almost all the harmful pathogens and bacteria. It’s one of the only ionizers to come with a UV light filter, which makes this system perfect for well water homes.

There are two filters, and it also comes with a pre-filter option to help soften water. The first filter includes a thin sediment layer, and the second one is a vitamin C ceramic filter that removes chloramines and chlorine.

What We Don’t Like

While the Life Ionizer is a state-of-the-art under sink water ionizer, we did find that the installation had some tricky connections. We had the tools to set up the ionizer, but we found customer service to be less than helpful. Some other customer reviews suggested that the company did not have the best warranty either.

Tyent ACE-13

When it comes to water ionizers, Tyent Water USA has won the crowd over with its ACE-13 water ionizers. We thought that the most plates were in Tyent’s H2, but the ACE-13 includes 13 plates. This water ionizer also comes with a smaller, stainless steel design.

The motion-activated flow sensor helps with automatic water outflow using just the movement of your hand. You simply wave and the alkaline water machine starts dispensing water. With a full-color, LCD touchscreen and dial control, you can set up custom controls.

ACE-13 offers a filter that gets rid of 200 harmful contaminants, including chlorine and bacteria. It’s easy to change out the filters as well because of the front-load filter design.

It’s one of the most powerful water ionizers because of its titanium solid and mesh hybrid plates. You can reach maximum electrolysis to get the full range of pH levels between 2 and 12. There are over 99 presets for alkaline and acidic levels, including 1 “TURBO” level for both acidic and alkaline outputs.

What We Liked

The Tyent ACE-13 is one of the smartest, innovative water filtration devices on the market. Built with an upgraded power supply and 13 titanium plates, this unit is virtually indestructible and filters water extremely well. We found its active carbon water filter removes over 99% of contaminants including chloramine, chlorine, pesticides, bacteria, cysts, arsenic, lead, from a regular municipal water supply.

The rich water tastes great and has no odor, and because of its purity and alkalinity, it truly helps put your stomach at ease. The advanced dual filters in the Tyent ACE-13 purify your water from almost all contaminants.

In addition, Tyent offers a lifetime guarantee on their alkaline water systems as well. We like that you never have to worry about this alkaline water filter breaking. Customers report that Tyent Water has attentive and reliable customer service, as well.

What We Don’t Like

There are a ton of different controls, and it can be confusing to set up 99 different presets for water. While the design may feel like overkill, you’ll enjoy having a setting for just about any kind of cleaner water, drinking water, or disinfectant setting.

We also think the design is a little bit boxy, and it will need an electrical supply on top of the counter. You may want to keep the Tyent ACE-13 in a corner of your kitchen where it doesn’t take center stage.

Aqua Ionizer Deluxe IONplus

The IonPlus is a compound filtration and water ionizer system. It has 10 stages and 7 platinum-titanium plates. With the DARC self-cleaning system, it automatically cleans your filtration device, so you never have to worry about mold or mildew.

This ionizer adjusts the pH levels in your source water with a new MICOM system. This means that you can adjust to get the perfect level of alkalinity in your water. It also removes the most dangerous and smallest of contaminants.

The 10 stages of filtration include a sediment, super ceramic, anion ceramic, anti-bacterial filter, and carbon-activated filters. However, it’s the design of this under sink alkaline water ionizer that really makes it high-tech. The touch-screen controls on the faucet make it easy to select what you want even though the filtration device is located under the counter.

What We Liked

We love the design of the IonPlus. It’s incredibly sleek and fits right over the faucet. It has simple-to-use controls, including an alkaline button, acid button, and then micro-customizable options. You can use the touch controls to change the alkaline pH manually.

As an under sink alkaline water ionizer, you can change to four different alkaline presets and two acidic levels. It has a pH range from 2.5 to 11 pH. The MICOM system assures that you always get the perfect level of ionization.

The sleek design fits neatly under your countertop, and it has a DARC cleaning system to automatically and continuously clean your device.

The filter also tested for 99.99% purified results. We tested the unit for bacteria, pesticides, chloramine, chlorine, arsenic, lead, and hundreds of other contaminants.

What We Don’t Like

We thought that the IonPlus came with a lifetime warranty, but this only applies to the plates. There is a five-year parts and labor warranty for the rest of the machine. However, the company also provides a 60-day money back guarantee if anything goes wrong.

Tyent EDGE 9000

Tyent’s Edge Water Ionizer 9000T is a smaller version of their larger ACE-13. This version only has 9 plates, but it includes a colorful touch-screen interface with the same dial function for easy control as other Tyent products.

In addition, it’s Tyent’s most affordable ionizer. It has an automatic water controller valve for efficiency. In addition, we found that that it was among the best filters even with less plates.

While it’s not advanced as the other Tyent ionizers, it’s smaller and designed with a smoother case than some of Tyent’s more high-end products. It’s convenient to set up the Edge with your kitchen faucet. This water ionizer takes only minutes to set up and can immediately purify and produce alkaline water.

What We Liked

The Edge is one of the easiest water filter devices to use. Since it’s a countertop filter, you don’t have to worry about installing it under the sink. You can simply set it up next to a power supply and attach the water line to the faucet to get pure water easily.

You can control the alkalinity with custom settings, and while the LCD display is not as intuitive as the larger ionizers, the Edge is perfect for the value.

With a 9-stage filtration process, the water is odorless and quite pure. We found that the Edge removed 98% of contaminants, including lead, arsenic, pesticides, chlorine, bacteria, and many others.

Tyent also includes their lifetime warranty with the Edge.

What We Don’t Like

The software is not as intuitive, and it takes more time to manually program the ionizer, which is different than the experience with Tyent’s ACE-13 and hydrogen water ionizer models. While the design is smaller and more attractive than some of their other models, you will still need to set it up near an electrical outlet to plug it in.

EOS DNA Water Ionizer

The EOS DNA water ionizer is one of the better ionizer machines we have ever reviewed. With a 16-stage dual filter system and platinized titanium slotted plates, the EOS DNA offers an extremely pure result with custom settings for alkalinity and acidic water.

This alkaline water ionizer machine comes with patented slotted plates and a large touch screen. You can program all the settings you want for pH, and it comes with an SMPS electrical system to ensure that water is perfectly electrolyzed.

We found that the water was more than 98% pure of all contaminants. We tested for bacteria, pesticides, lead, chlorine, chloramine, chromium, and other dangerous chemicals. In addition, the DNA water ionizer comes with a five-year warranty for parts, labor, and shipping.

Water Ionizer FAQs

How Does Water Ionizers Work?

Before investing in any water filter, you should know how it works and all the alkaline water benefits. Most water ionizer machines hook up to your kitchen sink, but there are hybrid types, countertop models, and the under counter water ionizer. Each of them has the same process to filter your water so that it’s alkaline.

Ionizers are built with a two-step filtration process. The first step is to filter out any harmful components in the water, such as chlorine, sediment, odor, taste, organic waste, bacteria, and other things that shouldn’t be in your drinking water.

Secondly, an electrical charge and special plates are used for electrolysis, which changes the pH level in the water. Some ionizers let you control the pH level, allowing you to create lower pH water for cleaning purposes or high-quality alkaline water.

Do All Ionizers Come With a Built-In Water Filter?

It is important to check specifications on any alkaline water ionizer to see what filters are included. Some include multi-stage process with over 10 steps, including carbon block and reverse osmosis filters.

However, you should be careful with certain ionizers that have a short filter life and a custom filter. These are difficult to maintain and may cost more after a few months.

What’s The Difference Between Countertop and Under Counter Water Ionizer?

Countertop ionizers sit next to the kitchen faucet and make it easy to get alkaline water whenever you want. The only difference between these two ionizer types is how they are installed. In addition, most under sink alkaline water ionizer are more expensive and have faucet controls, rather than the touch screen LCD displays on countertop filters.

Is It Safe To Use Alkaline or Acidic Water?

Yes, as long as you keep the alkaline levels between 7 and 9 for your drinking and cooking water. Many ionizers offer custom settings that let you turn down the pH to under 3, which creates good water for cleaners and disinfectants. However, these should not be ingested.

There are a lot of alkaline water benefits that come with ionizers. However, these are mostly reported by users as the systems have not been fully studied or researched. If you have issues with your water source, ionizers may not be as effective as well. Most experts recommend using a alkaline water ionizer with a multi-stage filtration process that includes reverse osmosis for this reason.

How Do You Install A Water Ionizer?

Most of the units have their own installation process, but it’s typically the same for countertop and under counter water ionizer. The first step is that you must connect the water ionizer to the water line with under sink filters. Countertop filters typically just connect to the faucet.

In some cases, you may need to change your kitchen’s tubes and connections depending on the size of the under counter water ionizer. If a second faucet is necessary, you may also have to create a hole using a drill to pull the faucet through. For this reason, countertop filtration devices are easier to install and use.

Does Ionized Water Stay Alkaline Forever?

The truth is that alkaline water does not keep its pH. After 3 days, the pH level drops significantly. However, if you store alkaline water, it can maintain its pH for up to a week.
